# The DUEL Token

DUEL is the GameGPT token. This chapter describes how value reaches it today.

**How value reaches the token**

Revenue on GameGPT is earned in dollars and settled in USDC. A portion of the revenue the protocol takes in, from tournament fees and the other revenue lines above, is used to buy DUEL off the open market. Tokens bought back are burned, or locked in a team vault. Buy pressure on DUEL therefore comes from protocol revenue, not from users being pushed to transact in the token. Users pay in dollars; the protocol buys the token.

**Where this stands today**

Today the buyback is a manual process carried out by the team. It is not an automated on-chain mechanism, and this document does not claim that it is.

**What is no longer part of the model**

* There is no discount for paying in the token. We removed it because it encouraged buying the token to extract dollar prizes, which works against the token in the long run.
* There is no scheduled quarterly burn. Buybacks follow revenue, not a calendar.
* DUEL staking rewards have been fully distributed; the staking reward program concluded in 2025. NFT staking continues only as the way to activate a gaming agent, not as a yield program.
